Southwest Steel
Casting Company achieved
certification to ISO-9002 on December
26, 1996. In so doing, SWS become only
the second foundry in Texas to
distinguish itself in this manner. Less
than 1% of all U.S. companies had
achieved this distinction at that time.
On November 29, 2003, Southwest Steel
successfully completed the transition
audit to the new revision of the
ISO-9000 series of standards,
ISO-9001:2000.
ISO-9001:2000 is the “Quality Systems -
Model for Quality Assurance in
Production, Installation, and Servicing”
created by ISO (International
Organization for Standardization), and
is almost universally adopted as THE
standard for quality systems.
Certification involves establishing,
implementing, and documenting a quality
system in accordance to the
ISO-9001:2000 standard. Then, having
this quality system be audited by a
third party (registrar). If the third
party determines if the system is in
compliance with all of the requirements
of the ISO-9001:2000 standard, then a
certificate of compliance is issued.
SWS’s Third Party
Auditor (Registrar): .....ABS Quality
Evaluations
SWS’s Certificate of Compliance#:
........................ 32091
Once it became certified, SWS must
undergo “surveillance audits” (by ABS
Quality Evaluation ) of its quality
system every six months. This is done to
verify the continuation of the quality
system, and to measure its
effectiveness.
